Lesson 2
Chilton Library
My neighbor is in luck! The State Library now provides online access to such videos through Chilton. Having used the paper version of Chilton resources "back in the day," I know how helpful and user friendly these are -- the hard part will be convincing my neighbor to sit at a computer long enough to view the video(s) he needs.
To access the videos related to his 1982 Jeep Cherokee, he'd begin at our local library's website. Once there, he will need to enter his library bar code number and password (I'd tell him how to determine this, if he hasn't done it before.). Next, he'll need to hover the mouse over the "References" link at the near the top of the page and select "State Library Databases, click "C" and scroll, then click, "Chilton." Once at the Chilton website he will enter the Year/Make/Model of his vehicle on the left side of the page where indicated. I'd assure my neighbor that the website is very user friendly--all he needs to do is click "repair" and then select "Steering" from a menu on the left. By clicking the + sign he'd be led to "Steering wheel/removal & installation" where there are Animation and Tech Tips, Videos and a step-by-step outline of how to remove and install the steering wheel. He'd be very pleased with how easy it was to find the videos and hopes changing the steering wheel is just as easy!

Mango Languages
The best way to help the Vietnamese student would be slowly describe what Mango Languages offers while showing her how to use it--and stopping to see if she seems to be understanding or has some questions. After helping her log on to it, some points to show her are: "Using Mango Languages will help you practice your English listening and speaking skills. There will be words printed in Vietnamese--as they are changed to English you will hear them pronounced. It does not go fast--you click the arrow to move to the next part when you are ready. You can start over and repeat words and phrases if you want to."
Very good, refhelp! Your enthusiasm about Chilton's is infectious. My fear is that it might make something look too easy, and an amateur could get in over his/her head. :) We have gotten lots of great feedback from ELL and ESL teachers about that component of Mango. Thanks for your comments.
